Darts,
We had a
busy week with a couple of races and I was really pleased with how it went. We
got to see our region on Wednesday for a 2-mile course preview at Layton Park
and we looked great! As usual the grass was long and the ground was soft in a
few places, and I thought we handled it well. By the end of the season the
majority of you will be running as fast of a pace or faster for a 3 mile race
on the same course. We're just getting started and we will continue to improve.
On Friday we
went to the Inaugural Weber State Invite at El Monte Golf Course. This time the
grass was short, the ground firm, and there was a pretty good hill for about
300 meters that you had to go up twice. I thought you guys did really well both
up and down those hills. The course ended up being short of 3 miles (I'm guessing
about 2.9). It was fun to see our old teammates from Farmington High at the
race. They looked really good! The
rookie boys were caught by surprise and had to race first. Tyler took
control from the beginning and didn't let up - winning the race by 34 seconds.
The boys did a great job placing 3rd (55 pts) behind Farmington (29) and
Herriman (40). The rookie girls showed a lot of toughness after a fast start. Hope
took the lead really late in the race and finished strong to lead our girls to
a win. I talked to the JV girls
before the race and told Whitney if she wants to win she has to get out in
front of the majority off the start. She laughed and said, "I'm not gonna
win!" Except she did and the rest of the TEAM wasn't far behind her. The JV boys raced patiently and moved up
great by the end of the race to go 1-2-3 (Carson, Lincoln, and Noah).
Immediately after the gun went off, Caleb decided to run the race with one shoe
and emerged in 12th place by the end of the race to round out our scoring with
a total of 25 pts. There were some great runners in Varsity girls race and a small pack formed quickly that included
Ellie. It looked like a fight from the beginning with alternating surges by the
top two girls, but Ellie was able to snag the win by one second. The girls got
out pretty well and fought hard through the middle to move up and place 1st.
Alicia thought it looked so fun she decided to race with one shoe as well.
There was a lot of excitement surrounding the Varsity boys race since it included two nationally ranked
pre-season teams in Skyridge (27th) and Davis (40th). Our boys got strung out a
bit at the start, but didn't panic and moved up well to try to find each other.
By the end it looked like a whole different race that came down to the wire as
Skyridge edged us by 6 points.

Stretch/Roll-out
For many of
you we're only 5 weeks away from your last official race of the season
(Region). Only six-and-a-half weeks until the State Championships. It will be
over before you know it. Make each day count. Make your recovery count. Take
care of yourself by stretching each day after your run. Roll out tight spots,
try to get on a consistent sleep schedule, stay hydrated, eat well, work your
core. Doing the little things makes a big difference.
See you
Monday morning!
