DXC Update - NXN - 4th Place!!!

Darts -
It has been a great season! The boys wrapped it up with an incredible performance at the Nike Nationals yesterday. Our 7 guys represented the entire program well throughout the weekend--and particularly in the race. The NXN course is pretty challenging because of the soft, wet, muddy ground and quite a few hills throughout the course. We knew it would take a patient effort and we knew the boys would have to be mentally focused and physically tough over the final mile of the race. At the first mile, we established good position and came through the timing chip checkpoint in 8th place with 227 points. Our focus the 2nd mile was maintaining and preparing for the finish, and by the 2nd checkpoint (mile 2), we had actually moved up one spot to 7th with 210 points, and we were closing the gap on a few of the teams in front of us. We didn't know the official outcome for about 30 minutes after the race. We were hoping we had moved up one more spot to 6th, and thought if we were lucky we might have caught 2 teams to finish 5th. When we heard the announcement with Davis in 4th place, it was hard to contain our excitement--I think we were just as excited as the teams on the podium (top 3). The boys really closed the final mile and finished with 180 points to beat 5th place by just 1 point. Fighting all the way through the finish line got them that extra finishing spot. Had the race been a bit longer, we would have caught the third place team. We were trailing the 3rd place team by 48 points with a mile to go, and we finished just 17 points off of the podium. Our 4th place team finish is the 2nd highest finish for our boys team (3rd in 2011), and the 5th highest finish in Utah history. We were pretty proud of the fact that we finished 7th in the Utah state combined results, and came back with a 4th place finish at the Nationals.
Camren led the way for us with a 33rd place finish (11th in team scoring - without the individuals). It is the highest finish in Davis cross country history (Brad Nye finished 39th in 2011). Cam's time was 16:12 - only 11 seconds off of All-American. Jacob Vaughan had a monster race for us, and held on strong through the finish as our #2 guy. Jacob ran 16:38 and finished 72nd (36th in team scoring). Matt Ward didn't quite get out as well as he hoped, but made some great adjustments in the first half of the race and then fought with our group over the 2nd half. Matt finished with 16:40 in 76th place (40th team scoring). Devin Jaster was a total beast as well and really moved over the final 800m to pick up a few key points. Devin ran 16:42 and was 79th (43rd in team scoring). The 5th man is so key in cross country, and Brigham didn't let us down. He fought through the line as well and ended as the 3rd highest 5th man in the race. Brigham ran 16:47 and placed 89th (50th in the team scoring). Josh Peters mixed it up in our group throughout the race, helping his teammates and beating nearly every team's 5th man. Josh was only :07 back with 16:54. Good enough for 98th place (57th in team scoring). And Seth (our lone junior in the race), struggled for a bit through the first 2 miles, but came on very strong over the final stretch, never giving up. Seth finished in 134th place (90th in team scoring) with a time of 17:13.
In a race that is very difficult to find your teammates, our guys grouped very well. Our 2-5 spread was only :09, and our 1-5 spread was only :35, starting with an outstanding race from Camren. One of the coolest statistics I saw all weekend was pointed out by one of our parents. If you were to score all 7 runners on every team in the race, we would have been National Champs by 32 points over Bozeman. I know that doesn't mean much in cross country, but we had the best full 7 on the course yesterday, and I was really proud of their effort as a TEAM. When you get the chance, congratulate the boys, but also realize that they were doing their best to represent ALL OF YOU. After the race, they kept talking about how excited they hoped all of you were back home watching them. I really felt like this group was inspired by their entire TEAM - boys and girls - and they would not have run as well without your support and help all season long.

DXC Update - Nike Southwest

Darts -
I hope that you have had a great Thanksgiving break and that you have spent some time with the people who are most important to you. It is a good time to step back and be grateful for the many blessings and opportunities in your life. I also hope that you are getting some rest and feeling excited about what's next - indoor/outdoor track and next year's cross country season. We have a lot of great things to look forward to, and a lot of work to do in the near future.

This Week - We have another full week without any organized practice. I will leave this upcoming week up to you. Some of you will find that you would like the majority of the 2 week break without running, and some of you may find that you are ready to run most days in the upcoming week - most of you are probably somewhere in between. If you feel that you were fairly beat up (or injured) from the xc season, use this next week to continue to recover, but maybe start some form of cross training if available to you. If you are feeling pretty good, try to fit in a few runs during this next week - nothing hard, just some mileage - 2-5 days of running with 3-8 miles per run. We will officially be back to practice on Tuesday, December 6th, when we start our winter base training and try to build our mileage going into the track season.

Important Dates:
Tuesday, December 6th - Indoor Track Meeting in the Cafeteria at 2:30pm. 8th and 9th graders are invited and encouraged to participate in indoor track with us. Just come to the cafeteria on Tuesday after you get out of school. We will have a small meeting that day with the junior high students at about 3:10 before going for a run. The indoor track meet schedule is up on the blog - www.davisindoortrack.blogspot.com
Tuesday, June 20th - 2017 Cross Country Meeting (Tentative)
July 31 - August 4: 2017 Cross Country Camp

Nike Southwest - We had a great trip to Arizona for the Nike Southwest Regional. The course was a bit longer than 5k (probably 3.18-3.20 miles), so the times were relatively slower than previous years on the course, but we still had some incredible efforts and performances.
In the open girls race, our girls finished in 3rd place against primarily varsity squads (even though #1 Mountain Vista was their JV). It was our highest finish since 2013. Sarah Waddoups and Madeline English ran strong in the front pack, and both finished in the top 25. 6 of our top 7 girls from that group are coming back, which should help us reload and come back strong a year from now. Great races in the open from Jacque Smith, Sara Miller, and Kate Stuart.
In the boys open race, we came away with a victory for the 2nd year in a row against some very strong varsity teams (2nd place Riverton was 11th in the Utah state merge results). Connor Jones had a phenomenal race for 9th place, and Josh Christiansen, McKay Treadwell, Derek Thornton, and Porter Van Drimmelen were all in the top 35. We showed our team depth in the open race with our 'C' team finishing in 6th place and our 'D' team finishing 10th. For the 2nd year in a row, the JV boys squad went undefeated - even in the varsity races they were entered in (Bob Firman and NXR). It will take some hard work to replace our outstanding group of seniors, but the young guys are looking good and hopefully very excited to step up. Great races in the open race from Porter Van Drimmelen, CJ Rees, and Nate Steed.
The girls in the championship race put it on the line from start to finish. They have worked very hard over the past 6 months, and really put their heart and soul into this race (and this TEAM). Although it wasn't the outcome we hoped for, I could not be more proud of these young women. They are a true TEAM and true CHAMPIONS. They sacrificed for one another and ran for one another all season long. It would have been great to qualify for the Nationals, but just as great is the type of teammates and people they have become. Aubrey led us in the race with an all-Southwest performance and a 19th place finish. The team finished in 6th place (the #2 team from Utah). For the seniors in the race, it might have been their final cross country race representing the 'D', but they have plenty of challenges in front of them that they will face with the same heart and determination. We had 2 sophomores in the race (Alicia and Abi), who are going to comeback and help the TEAM have success in the future.
The highlight of the day was the Boys Championship race. This has been a boys team that has shown strength and some renewed fire and grit since the state championship. I was very proud of the way they bounced back from a disappointing 7th in the state merge. We kept believing and just kept working for the shot at redemption. They ran extremely gutsy and aggressive in the southwest race to earn a spot at NXN with the 2nd place finish. I learned a lot from this team and their resilience, and I am excited to see what they can do this Saturday (12/3). In the southwest race, we were led by Camren Todd with a 13th place finish. It was great to have Cam feeling strong and running near top form again. Josh Peters came through like he has all season with a 31st place finish. Matt Ward and Seth Stromberg were kind of the heroes of the day - neither got out as well as we were hoping, but both of them fought through the groups and never gave up. They finished the 2nd half strong and moved into our 3-4 positions at 51st and 58th. Brigham Halverson also kept fighting throughout the race to secure the NXN spot for us with a 65th place. Devin, Frasier, and Jacob also put it all on the line - and though they struggled over the final 400-800m, they gave everything they had for their teammates. This is our 6th boys team to qualify for NXN.
*I will send out the link to the live feed to Nike Nationals later in the week.
Thanks to all of you who went with us to Nike Southwest and for everyone who supported the team in getting there. Once again, I hope that it gave you a renewed desire and motivation to be your best and to keep working hard. I know it doesn't always pay off or end up like you have hoped, but there is a lot to be said for working hard and sacrificing to accomplish a goal. I hope you will continue to be as passionate (or more passionate) about being your best in things to come.

Thanks for a great season!!!

DXC Update - 10/30

Darts -
It was an awesome first week of Post-Season training. It was fun to see you all working so hard and working with so much determination. I hope you were able to rest and recover a little bit this weekend--just enough to get back at it on Tuesday. We have 2 more weeks of pretty hard work and then we'll be ready for a strong Nike Southwest Race. I did update the Vita Course All-Time list, and a HUGE congrats to all of you who joined the sub 50 and sub 63 clubs and to Aubrey Argyle for setting the girls all-time record at an incredible time of 49:58!! (http://davisxc.blogspot.com/p/vita-course-all-time.html)

Those of you who have not been coming to practices (since State) - You should come!! I would love to see more of you at the practices for the next two weeks. We had a few die-hards who aren't going to NXR, but I would love for all of you who did XC with us this season to come to our final 2-3 weeks. At the very least, you should all be doing some running on your own. If you take the entire month of November off (and the last half of October), you are going to have a lot of re-building to do going into indoor track. Anyway, I hope you all know that you are invited and encouraged to keep running with us - even if you don't have any more cross country races this season. There is always something to work for: indoor and outdoor track and next year's cross country. The work you are doing right now (or not doing) will effect your fitness and performances through those seasons. We strongly believe that in order to reach your potential as a distance runner, it is important to train all year (with some much needed breaks in between seasons). Remember that all 9th graders can compete with us in indoor track. We hope to have our strong group of freshmen continue to build.

Uniform Turn In - Please bring your uniforms to turn in this week on Tuesday or Wednesday at practice (or drop them off after school in my classroom). We would like to collect all of the uniforms so that we can make an inventory for track. Please turn them in EVEN IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO TRACK. I will be keeping a record of those who turn in their uniforms. If you do not turn in your uniform this week, you will be fined through myDSD.

Nike Regionals - I have attached the itinerary and the waiver for Nike Regionals. All of you who are attending need to turn in your money and waiver by Friday, November 11th. The cost is $300. Checks need to be made out to "Davis County Running Club". You can use 100% of your proceeds from the 12 hour run. You will also need to make sure you are members of the USATF (Club #34-0166). More information about the USATF is on the bottom of the itinerary. Join after November 1st if you are a first time member, because it will last through all of 2017 (Simplot and NXR next year). Please let me know if you or your parents have any other questions.

12 Hour Run -
We are going to be able to use the track and the field for the 12 hour run "fundraiser" next Friday (November 4th). We will start with a small group at 1:00pm (during school) and keep the baton going until 1:00am. Everyone who wants to be involved will get to run at least 1 mile, but you can do more running with your teammates when it is their turn. We are shooting for at least 120 miles in the 12 hours (6:00 per mile). I handed out the pledge sheets and fundraising fliers at practice on Friday - and I will have them at practice this week as well. Anyone on the team is more than welcome to participate. Any proceeds raised by those not going to NXR will go into the running club budget - and are greatly appreciated!!

Grace Christiansen's Humanitarian Information -
Grace is heading to the Philippines and is looking for a few donations that she can take with her: Ties for perspective missionaries (used), Receiving Blankets (light and thin), small toys and stuffed animals (light weight), and/or cash or check donations (all money goes toward purchasing supplies for missionaries and orphans). Checks should be made out to "Type of Wood Charities, Inc". Any donations need to be turned in before November 11th. You can bring them to Grace or to my classroom. Thanks!

Alumni Update - Congrats to all of our alumni who ran in their college conference xc meets this past weekend. Ellie Child (Weber State) finished 1st in the Big Sky, Ashley Tyndall (SUU) finished 22nd in the Big Sky, Courtney Wayment (BYU) finished 14th in the West Coast (freshman of the year), Sam Hedquist (UVU) finished 29th in the WAC, Preston Johnson (Weber State) finished 45th in the Big Sky.

Athletes of the Week:
Girls - Miah Weaver (State), Jennica Robinson (Vita Course)
Boys - Matt Ward (State), Noah Stuart (Vita Course)

This Week:
Monday - Halloween Run. We are meeting at the school at 8:00am. Wear your costume (you don't have to run in it if you don't want). Or just come, ready for a nice TEAM run.
Tuesday - Mile Repeats at Lagoon Trails - 9th graders meet us at the trailhead or at the south doors by 3:15.
Wednesday - Recovery Run
Thursday - Track Workout
Friday - 12 Hour Run Fundraiser for NXR

DXC Update - State Championships

Darts -
Even on years where it does not go as we hoped, I love the Sate Cross Country Championships--the excitement, the teamwork, the challenges, and the gutsy performances. We came away with a 2nd place finish for the girls and a 3rd for the boys. Both races were stacked full of talented individuals and strong teams. I want to thank every member of the TEAM for being there and putting so much emotion and passion into the race. Our TEAM was, once again, the loudest, most excited, and most supportive team on the course. You all did a great job with the body paint and the cheering. It was fun to watch.

The girls race was a close battle with American Fork. Aubrey was our top finisher in 4th place--it was her 4th All-State finish and her 4th time finishing in the top 4. She has had an incredible cross country career at Davis, and this one was very special considering her 2 major injuries over the past year. Ally came through big for us with a very strong 6th place finish. It's Ally's 2nd all-state performance (3rd in 2014), and it was an great display of toughness and grit. Grace, Jenna, and Miah fought very hard over the final half of the race to move up to 23rd, 25th, and 27th. I thought it was fitting that these 5 seniors were our top 5 finishers on the day. They have put so much into the program, and it was awesome to see them finish with such strong performances. We also had some gutsy performances from Abi and Madeline running in their first state championships and finishing in 32nd and 33rd. They gained some valuable experience that could really help us next year.
Davis Finishers
4. Aubrey Argyle - 18:06
6. Ally Geisler - 18:16
23. Grace Neuenschwander - 19:05
25. Jenna Connell - 19:11
27. Miah Weaver - 19:14
32. Abi Waddoups - 19:20
33. Madeline English - 19:27
Team Scores
1. American Fork - 68
2. Davis - 78
3. Lone Peak - 94
4. Weber - 108
5. Fremont - 146

The boys laid it on the line, but didn't quite get the finish we hoped for. They have had an amazing season - getting wins at BYU, Murray, Bob Firman, District, and Region - all with record, or close to record, TEAM efforts. But sometimes things go your way. It's hard when they don't, but it gives us opportunity. Opportunity to be more unified. Opportunity to work harder than we have before. And opportunity to bounce back. We worked very hard to prepare for the state championships, and we were ready to have a good day. It's difficult to pinpoint why, but it happened and now we are left in a position to see how we respond. It is a test of character and teamwork, and I am very grateful that we have another race to look forward to. Matt was our top finisher of the day in 12th, and we still had a decent 1-7 spread (:32). Camren and Seth also finished top 20 with 15th and 20th respectively. These are tough boys who are going to make adjustments and come back with a lot of determination and fire at Nike Regionals. #motivation #gethungry
Davis Finishers
12. Matt Ward - 15:47
15. Camren Todd - 15:53
20. Seth Stromberg - 15:58
21. Devin Jaster - 16:01
22. Jacob Vaughan - 16:08
26. Brigham Halverson - 16:19
27. Josh Peters - 16:19
Team Scores
1. American Fork - 42
2. Lone Peak - 75
3. Davis - 85
4. Westlake - 122
5. Riverton - 124

I hope you all enjoy your Fall Break. Try hard to have a mental and physical break and come back on Monday rested and excited to work hard for Nike Regionals. I will have the next month's training schedule ready to go. If you have been invited to NXR, I am expecting commitment, energy, and focus. Everyone on the TEAM is invited to join us for that great month of training.

Important Upcoming Dates:
Friday (11/4) - 12 Hour Run Fundraiser for NXR (Tentative)
Wednesday (11/9) - Pre-NXR at Layton Park - 4:00pm (for everyone)
Thursday (11/10) - TEAM Banquet @ TBA
Saturday (11/19) - Nike Regionals

Thank you all, once again, for a great regular season. It has been fun and memorable. Keep up the good work. Keep moving forward. Keep dreaming and believing.

DXC Update

Darts -
We are wrapping up the regular season with the State Championships on Wednesday. While there is more cross country and more running to follow, I am very proud of the TEAM commitment and improvement this season. Through the ups and downs, I feel that everyone has stayed very positive. We have grown as a TEAM, and it has been a very fun, rewarding season to be a part of. Let's finish strong together this week!

State Cross Country - The meet will take place at Sugarhouse Park on Wednesday (October 19th). The girls race at 2:00 and the boys race at 3:30. We want as many of our athletes there as possible - I understand a few of you might be going out of town for fall break - I hope the rest of you will make it to the state meet and be a part of our final TEAM race of the season. We also want as many parents and fans there as possible. The more positive support, the better. We will be stopping at Cafe Rio in Bountiful on the way home. Each of the athletes need to bring $5 to put toward their dinner--the team budget will cover the rest. Make sure to bring warm clothes - it looks like the high will be around 55-60. If you are taking the PSAT in the morning, please hurry to the buses. We really need to leave as close to 11:45 as possible.
Here is the schedule:
11:30 - Excused from school
11:45 - Buses Leave
2:00 - Girls 5A Championships (Aubrey, Ally, Jenna, Grace, Madeline, Miah, Abi)
3:30 - Boys 5A Championships (Josh, Matt, Seth, Jacob, Camren, Brigham, Devin)
5:30 - Dinner at Cafe Rio (bring $5)
7:00 - Back to the School

Fall Break - With the 3 days of fall break, each of you should take two days off and get in a distance run on one of the days. We will start working hard for NXR the following week.

Nike Regional Championships (NXR) - will be in Casa Grande, AZ on November 19th. The TEAM will be taking one bus down (50 athletes). We are looking at the possibility of adding 2 vehicles in order to take a total of 60 athletes. We will be leaving on Thursday (11/17) and coming back on Sunday (11/20). The cost will be $300. Some or all of that money can be earned through the 12 hour run-a-thon if you are willing to go out and get donations or pledges. We are staying at the Springhill Suites in Chandler, AZ on Friday and Saturday night. I have attached the invite list. The primary emphasis was placed on our final 2 big races (Bob Firman and Region) as well as some consideration to other races in the season. With our TEAM depth and commitment, it was the most difficult list we have ever had to make. I feel like so many more of you have worked hard and earned the trip, but it is the best we can do. If you are on the list, but will be unable to attend, please let me know ASAP and we will fill those spots with alternates. More details to come.

Important Upcoming Dates:
Wednesday (10/19) - State Championships
Friday (11/4) - 12 Hour Run Fundraiser for NXR (Tentative)
Wednesday (11/9) - Pre-NXR at Layton Park (for everyone)
Thursday (11/10) - TEAM Banquet @ TBA
Saturday (11/19) - Nike Regionals
Monday (7/31) - Friday (8/4) - 2017 Cross Country Camp (Tentative)

Bring a lot of positive energy to practice on Monday and Tuesday. It's a big week, and everyone on the TEAM can still contribute to our success at state.
Thanks!

DXC Update - Region Championships

Darts -
It has been an incredible season so far. Thank you all for putting so much work into it and making it a positive experience. The region championships were awesome and we only have 10 days until the state championships (10/19 at Sugarhouse Park). We would like the entire TEAM to continue to train together until we get to the state meet. Those not running at state should still show up to our practices the next 2 weeks with positive energy. The focus will obviously be on the group running at state, but it will give all of you an opportunity to train through the entire season. I am also hoping that most of you can come to the state championships. I know it is the final day of school before fall break, but I still expect everyone who can to be there to support the team and be part of our final race. That one is not just about the 14 running, but about all 160 of you and the work you have put in throughout the summer and the season. The 14 running will be out there representing all of DXC (past and present).

Region Championships - We saw some great things this past Friday at the Region Championships. There was toughness, there was unity, and there was some intelligent racing. I felt like every member of the TEAM was giving their all and staying in the moment. It was a very impressive afternoon for DXC. The boys won their 22nd straight region title and the girls won their 11th straight. Both girls and boys JV squads finished the regular season with an undefeated record - and both JV groups would have finished 2nd in the varsity races behind our varsity team. The full results for the meet can be found on www.runnercard.com (JV girls times are slightly off), and the Davis results are at the bottom of this email (with correct JV girls times).
The JV girls started us out with a dominating performance. We set a TEAM record by sweeping the top 28 places. We also set a TEAM record with 35 girls under 22:00 on the region course (old record was 31 last year). Three sophomores led the way with Maddie Johnson (19:29), Jennica Robinson (19:31) and Rosie Schraedel (19:34). They would not have run so fast without senior Haylee Downey setting a great pace for the group. Haylee went on to finish 4th. Our top freshman in the race was Tilly Vasquez in 11th with a very good freshman time of 20:32.
The JV boys kept us rolling, just topping the girls with a sweep of the top 31 spots. The top spot went to senior, Zach Moncur with 16:05. He was followed by Derek Thornton, Zach Jenkins, and McKay Treadwell. It was awesome to watch our top group work together and push each other - not just in this race, but throughout the season. We put 40 boys under 18:00 in the JV race (plus 10 more in the varsity). We also had a TEAM record for our fastest 5 freshmen boys - Jacob Halverson, Garrett DiReda, Jalen Anderton, Connor Finlinson, and Carson Coleman beat our freshmen team time record by over a minute. With our varsity group being pretty senior loaded, we are going to need our younger guys (juniors and sophomores included) to continue to step up over the next 365 days to put us in this position again.
The Varsity Girls put together their finest TEAM effort of the season. They have gotten stronger and stronger with every big performance this year, and we are rolling going into the state championships. Aubrey led the way with a strong time of 17:44 on a course that was running about 15 seconds slower than last year because of the soft, wet ground. It was Aubrey's 3rd Region Title (1st in 2013, 1st in 2014, 2nd in 2015, and 1st in 2016). Aubrey now has 4 of our top 8 times ever run on the region course. She has established herself as the most decorated DXC runner of all-time. Ally Geisler and Jenna Connell ran patient and calm over the first half and tough over the second half to pull up for 2nd and 3rd on the final lap of the race. Ally finished with 18:12 and Jenna was 18:29. Madeline stepped up HUGE for us with a 5th place finish in 18:37 and Grace rounded out our top 5 with 18:40, giving us a :56 spread for 1-5 (at Bob Firman we were :81). We had very tough performances from Abi, Alicia, and Miah, finishing 7-8-9 as well. Giving us 8 of the top 9 runners in the race.
The Varsity Boys closed out the day with a monster performance. We ran as a tight pack through the first 2 miles of the race, and finished with a very tight :24 spread for 1-7. Our depth has been our biggest strength this season, and it showed as the boys finished 2nd through 9th in the race to win with 20 points. We ran our #2 All-Time team time - only behind last year's amazing performance (on a course that was in slightly better conditions). Josh led the way with a near victory in 15:13 - only :01 behind Leatham. Josh's improvement over the past few years is definitely noteworthy - he ran 18:26 as a freshman. Seth had a "Logan-esque" finish to place 3rd in 15:23. Matt and Jacob came in right together for 4-5, and our top 7 was rounded out with Camren, Brigham, and Devin all running within a second of each other for 6-7-8. Frasier put together a valiant effort as well for 9th. This group of seniors (8 of our top 9) have really grown and improved. It has been fun watching them come together to create one of the best DXC teams in history. We still have a lot of unfinished business, but I am loving the way they get after it.

I hope you were all inspired from the Region Championships and from other races this season. There are more races to come and more opportunities to push your limits and find your greatness - our remaining cross country work this year, indoor and outdoor track, and next year's cross country season. I would love to see all of you coming back really catch fire and see what we can accomplish over the next year. Just as there were this year, I am expecting surprises and jumps from many of you! If you were not satisfied with this race or this season, keep at it! Stay positive, stay focused and determined, and keep following your dreams and goals.

DXC Update - Nichols Race

Darts -
I hope you have all had a relaxing weekend, full of rest and recovery - and I hope you all know how important it is to take breaks and take your recovery seriously. I just got home from a weekend in St. George. We went down for the marathon. While I didn't get to run (knee injury), it was pretty cool to watch the race and see everyone working hard to make it to the finish line. I hope that every last one of you will stick with running after you are done with high school. There is nothing quite like finishing a marathon--and I believe everyone should have the experience at least once in their life. By the way, Coach Timothy did a great job - he ran 2:46.30 and finished as the 51st in a race of 5400. It was his PR by 7 minutes. We also got to see Sydney Zaugg and Natalie Olsen finish their first marathons (3rd and 4th in their divisions). Very Cool!

Davis Meet - Although it was a quick turnaround after the Bob Firman meet, we looked strong at the meet at Nichols Park. Josh Christiansen ran a great race to win the boys JV, followed closely by Porter Van Drimmelen. Our boys varsity group ran as a pack and finished within :01 of each other between 4th and 11th place. Jennica Robinson pulled away for the victory in the girls JV. Maddie Johnson and Sara Williams rounded out the top 3. The girls varsity also ran in a tight group. Aubrey closed strong the last mile for 2nd and our group finished within :01 for 4th-8th. You can see the full results on the blog - www.davisxc.blogspot.com

Athletes of the Week:

Coach Timothy, Cole Weaver, Nate Iverson, Hyrum Palmer

This Week -
We have a great week in front of us! I am excited about the cooler weather in the forecast, and I am pumped to see you all perform at the region championships on Friday. We have worked hard for this, and I want to see everyone of you giving your very best efforts in the final full TEAM race of the year. Think about all the work you have done--the long runs, the intervals, the hills, the morning runs, the tempo runs, the track work, and especially the races. Take confidence from the work you have put in and the experience you have gained. Their is no reason not to have a great week and a strong final race.
Monday - Workout at Layton Park on the region course (9th graders can still meet us at Davis and we will go over)
Tuesday - Varsity is going to run the state course @ Sugarhouse (last day possible); Distance run for all else.
Wednesday - Light speed work
Thursday - Easy Day & TEAM dinners (Girls at the Geisler, Boys TBA) - Both dinners will be at 6:00pm (I will be asking for volunteers to bring food).
Friday - Region Championships
Saturday - Varsity Morning Run; Optional distance run for all else.

Stay focused and hungry all week. Make sure to get your rest, do some extra stretching, hydrate, and fuel yourself for Friday. Let's put together our most dominating and solid TEAM effort of the season!! No Regrets!

Davis XC Update - Bob Firman

Darts -
We are at a key point in the season. We are running well, but I believe we can keep getting better and stronger going into the region and state championships. Please continue to bring energy and positive attitudes to our practices. Keep putting in work over the final stretch and keep taking care of your bodies - recovery is just as important as work at this point!

Bob Firman Invitational - I want to thank each of you for the great trip this past weekend. Thanks for being well-behaved, for making it fun, and for racing with so much toughness. It was our 11th year at Bob Firman, and it was one of the best. We won 5 of the 6 races we were entered in, and were a very close 3rd on the other one. In doing so, we brought home 4 new Bob Firman shoe trophies to add to the collection.
On the girls side, our varsity group put together their strongest race of the season. Aubrey led the way with a 9th place finish in 18:14 (Davis #4 all-time on the course) - she now has 4 marks on our Bob Firman top 20 all-time list (http://davisxc.blogspot.com/p/dxc-records.html); no one else has more than two marks on the list. Ally also made the podium with a strong 16th place finish (18:37) and Grace wasn't far behind in 23rd (18:54). As a team, the girls finished 3rd in the Elite race behind Jesuit (Oregon) and American Fork. We still have a lot of work in front of us, but it's coming together well and we're getting stronger with each race. One of our best performances of the meet came from our Varsity 'B' Team in the Large School varsity division. Racing against 45 teams - nearly all of which were varsity 'A' Teams - our girls came away with a strong victory. It took a total TEAM effort. Madeline led the way with another break-out performance. She finished 15th in 19:47. Then we had a pack of 4 girls between 27th and 32nd (Autumn, Rosie, Ellie, Haylee). I was so impressed with the way they kept their cool in a very intense race and with the way they worked so well together to move up through the masses. Our girls scored 131 to get the win by 33 points. It showed our depth and shows that we can come back next year with a strong team. Our JV girls finished the day with another phenomenal performance that keeps our undefeated JV streak going. Megan Allart ran a very smart race for the individual victory in 20:18. She took off just after 2 miles and ran a very tough final mile. Abby, Jacque, Maddie, Tilly, Sara, and Sara all finished in the top 10. We scored 22 points to finish 29 points ahead of 2nd. We had a team record 27 girls finish under 22:00 for 5k. This is most definitely our deepest girls team in a few years (and possibly ever).
Our boys also had an absolutely incredible day - winning all three of the races we were entered in. In the elite division, our goal was to run an aggressive race from the front. We probably got out a little too well and pushed a little too hard over the first half, but I was very proud of the effort and the toughness the boys showed over the last mile--it took some major guts. We were led by a very strong 1-2-3 punch from Josh (9th in 15:37 - Davis #5 All Time), Matt (13th in 15:45 - Davis #6 All Time), and Jacob (16th in 15:47 - Davis #7 All Time). We also got a very strong boost from Seth Stromberg with a great finish for 24th. We scored 84 points against a good field to get the win over North Central (WA) by 55 and ahead of 3rd place Ogden by 97. Our team time (top 5 combined) was a new team record with 79:15 (Devin Jaster included). We are continuing to learn about our strengths and weaknesses, and this TEAM is really progressing well going into the championship part of the season. Our varsity 'B' Team came through HUGE in the division 1 race. Devin finished 2nd in 16:04 (would have been our #5 and 27th in the elite), and then we packed in our next 5 runners in 15 seconds with especially good races from Connor, McKay, and Zach. We scored 45 points to beat the field of 49 (mostly) varsity teams. The boys JV may have been the race of the day. It was bordering ridiculous as we put 40 boys in the top 50 of the race. Zach Jenkins had an outstanding race for the win in 16:40. Jared Hogan also dipped under the 17 barrier with a 16:56 (giving us a total of 16 boys sub 17:00), we then had 26 more boys under 18:00. It was impressive to say the least.
While it was an awesome day for us, we still have a lot of work to do and a lot of important workouts and races to focus on going forward. Stay hungry!! Stay focused!! Stay prepared!! (Davis Results from the meet are at the bottom of the email).
