Cross Country Update #2

Darts -
It was a very busy week. We are starting to get into the heart of the season with some of my favorite races coming up (Murray and Bob Firman). I am pumped about what I am seeing from the TEAM. The attitudes are good, and the energy is high. Through the middle part of the season, we need to focus on the small things we can do to get faster and stronger.

Pre-Region:
We started on Wednesday with the Pre-Region Meet. We looked strong in all 3 races. Our girls ran the fastest for Davis history for the top 5 runners. We were led by Shea with a course record time of 11:38. We also had many girls improve by quite a bit over their Grass Relays 2 mile from last week. The boys were also led by a course record performance. Austin Neuner tied the course record with a 10:04. The best parts of the Pre-Region Meet was our depth and the fact that we are running as a TEAM. I have the Davis results listed below.

Parent's Night:
Thanks to those who were able to attend. I will email out the information I handed out (it is saved on my school computer).

TEAM Dinner:
Thanks to the Frodshams for allowing us to use the backyard for the party. And thanks to all the parents who were able to help or send food.

BYU Invite:
We cleaned up at the BYU Invite on Saturday. They give plaques for the top 2 teams in each race, our goal was to bring home 6 plaques in 6 races. We accomplished that goal with four 1st places and two 2nd place finishes. It was awesome hearing so much about Davis and how we were dominating the races. I thought the race of the day had to be the JV Boys finish 1-6 and getting a perfect score. That doesn't happen too often. Not only did we place in all the team competitions, but we brought home 55 T-shirts for individuals finishing in the top 30 for their race. That has to be some type of record. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the times - because the course was running slow. I heard some rumors that it was measured at 3.2 - but it might also have been the conditions of the grass. Once we get to a faster course like Murray or Bob Firman, we are going to see some big 5k PRs. The results are listed under the pre-region results, but full results can be found at www.runnercard.com

Athletes of the Week:
Austin Allred - 2 solid races, has shown a lot of improvement
Phillip Baker - ran a killer "breakthrough" race at BYU - very gutsy
Zach Schofield - JV champ at Pre-region; part of our perfect score at BYU
Nalany Resek - JV champ at BYU - running very tough
Sarah Parker - Great race at BYU - moved up through the entire race
Jessica Paget - Has improved a lot in the past few months - 2 great races this week

Bob Firman Invite: I posted the list on the board of who is invited on the trip. Please check the list and let me know if you can or cannot go on the trip. The alternates will be invited as we have some spots come open. I also sent home a paper with information for your parents - I hope you have shown them by now. Could parents who are driving up to watch please email me and let me know if you are going to be there. Thanks.

Coming Up:

Monday - Meet at the Vita Course at 7:30am for a 6-10 mile run, or run a hilly 6-10 miles on your own. We would like to get 2 longer runs this week - Monday and Saturday. They are not to be "hard" runs - just longer ones.
Friday - Murray Invitational - We will be getting out of school a little early - I will get you more information this week.

Thanks for a great week. Enjoy your Labor Day tomorrow - make sure to get a run in. Our "hard" day this week will be on Tuesday.
- Coach Talley
