XC Update 10-12

Darts and Parents,
The only meet this week was a region preview meet at Fremont High. All 8 of the schools from the region were there - the same schools we will be facing this week in the Region Championships. Other than missing a few of our top girls, we looked as strong as we have all year long. We are looking tough going into the championship part of the season. Our boys placed 9 in the top 12 (with an :11 spread between 2 and 9) and were again led by individual champ Seth Gutzwiller. The girls were missing Katie Swanson and Julianne Wirthlin, but were still able to place 6 in the top 10 and were led by individual champion and sophomore Meghan Hedquist. We saw a lot of strong improvements from every level of the TEAM. Great work! For full results, check out www.davisxc.blogspot.com
Now it is important that we prepare ourselves mentally and physically for the final 2 races of the season. Mental preparation includes having confidence that you can make these races your best. It also means being excited to do well as individuals and as a TEAM. Come into the region race with a positive attitude. Be confident that you have worked hard to get to this point, and rather than being nervous, be excited for a fun, hard race. Physical preparation includes eating the right things, being hydrated, and being well-rested. We will have a TEAM meeting on Tuesday to go over some race strategy and any last minute items. Set the goal that you will give the best effort you can and that you will finish the race satisfied with how hard you ran.

Coming up:
Region Championships - Wednesday, Oct 15 at Layton Park - races will go as follows: 3:00pm Girls JV, 3:30pm Boys JV, 4:00pm Girls Varsity, 4:30 pm Boys Varsity.

State Championships - Wednesday, Oct 22 at Sugarhouse Park - 3:30pm Varsity Girls, 4:00pm Varsity Boys. We invite all parents to come and watch even if your son/daughter is not running in the race. We will have a bus going down that day for all athletes on the TEAM.

Parents - If any of you are willing to bring refreshments to the Region meet on Wednesday, they will get eaten (and will be greatly appreciated). If any of you can bring granola bars, bagels, fruit snacks, fruit, cookies, or anything - let me know or just bring it over to Layton Park on Wednesday - thanks.

UEA Break - We will hold practice on Friday and Saturday of UEA break. Everyone is invited to come, it is mandatory for those running at state or those who are alternates for state. (You will know after region). Please let me know ASAP if you are unable to attend.
Thursday - no practice - 5 miles on your own (or in groups)
Friday - 8:00am at the school
Saturday - 8:00am at the school

Athletes of the Week - Meghan Hedquist, Caitlin Miller, Jason Thomas, Joe Albrechtsen

It is difficult to believe that the season is about at the end. Thanks to all of you for making it another successful year. No matter what happens these last 10 days, I can say that we have been committed to doing our all and that we have had a lot of fun doing it.
