DXC Summer Update #12

Darts,

This is the last week of reporting summer mileage. Please email me this week's mileage as soon as you can. I'll print out what I have and you post it in my classroom so you can fill in any blanks or correct any mistakes.

It's going to be around 90 degrees all week long. Make sure you're staying hydrated and on top of your nutrition (eat breakfast, bring snacks) throughout the school day.

Payson Night Hunt Invitational
We had our first race of the season Friday night at the Payson Night Hunt Invitational. The course had a lot of tight turns and tight squeezes which can slow you down a bit and throw off your rhythm. I thought the tunnel and dirt hills made the course kinda fun. I was really encouraged by what I saw from all the races. Way to bring the energy and excitement! I love when I'm running around one part of the course and can hear TEAMmates chanting D-H-S off in the distance. I hope it got you pumped for the rest of the season. The JV girls kicked things off with Rosie and Abi getting out and leading 5 girls in the top 6 of the race (Rosie, Jacque, Sydney, Megan, Abi). In the JV boys race we had a big group emerge by the first mile. Carson Knight had a killer race and led from start to finish followed by 12 other darts. JV did a great job setting the tone and getting varsity excited to race. The Varsity Girls did a great job working as a TEAM. Ellie ran a tough race and closed the gap in the last mile to take 2nd. Ruth was battling for 3rd place with two other girls, but with 500m to go took off and created an 11 second gap. Our top 5 were all in the top 11 of the race. The excitement carried over to the Varsity Boys race. Seth, Connor, and McKennion worked together the first mile and looked like a force to be reckoned with. They ended up going 1-2-3 in the race followed by Adam (5), Porter (8), CJ (9), and Zach (10).

I'll put the results at the bottom of the page. It was a good first race, but I hope none of you get complacent. We still have a ton of work to do. Good job everybody and let's get right back to work.

Athletes of the Week
Rosie Schraedel, Jaden Jeppson
Connor Jones, Carson Knight

Pre-Region Meet
We will have our first Region 1 Cross Country meet on Wednesday at Layton Park. 7 teams will be in attendance. The race will be 2 miles (the first 2 miles of the region championship course). I am looking for parents to volunteer to bring popsicles (there will be other opportunities as the season progresses). Let me know if you can - and then just bring a bag or 2 and put it in the cooler by where our team is set up. We are asking all athletes on the TEAM to stay until the end whenever possible. In this case, we are doing a little extra running together after the races.
Schedule:

1:30 - Excused from school (including 9th graders)
1:45 - Buses Leave
3:30 - Girls JV (all non-varsity, including freshman and sophomores)
3:55 - Boys JV (all non-varsity, including freshman and sophomores)
4:15 - Girls Varsity (10 runners)
4:35 - Boys Varsity (10 runners)
5:00 - Light workout and quick cool down
5:45 - Back to the School

TEAM shirts
We're going to be turning in an order for TEAM shirts Tuesday evening. I'll attach the first draft of the shirt so you can get an idea of what it will look like. I'm working with the shirt company to get a few things tweaked. Right now we're looking between $10 - $15. It's available in both a mens and womens cut. If any parents would like to order the shirt, send me an email or have your athlete turn in an order by Tuesday. The t-shirts are nice to have for cross country meets.

The season is underway, we have some busy weeks in front of us, and a lot of work to be done. Keep working hard, being positive, and being a good teammate!

Thanks!

Coach Timothy
