Darts,
Now that we're
back in school we've reached our last week of reporting mileage. Send in your
miles as soon as you can.
I don't know
about you guys, but the first few days of school are always exhausting. I'm
sure most of you were way out of your sleep routine during the summer. It's
hard on me to sit so much, but I can imagine it's worse for you that have to
sit in a hard chair all day and then we run in the hottest time of day. Loosen
up as much as you can throughout the day. Stay hydrated. Bring snacks.

Grass Relays
We had our
first official race of the season. It was kind of a long, hot day and I didn't
apply any sunscreen even though I brought the big jug. Times weren't as fast as
previous years for a couple reasons: (1) they had the sprinklers on the previous
night, and (2) the course was a little over 2 miles (2.06-2.08). Times don't
matter as much as place in cross country and we were in the top 6 in each race.
I thought
our cheering was pathetic. We invented being the loudest team with the most
energy, and we were showed up by most teams there. Riverton took it to another
level. They had a blast. We had small groups scattered around (which weren't
very loud) and groups of kids just sitting at the canopy while their TEAMmates
raced. I was embarrassed by our cheering section during the girls varsity race.
Cheering during the boys was a little better...
There were
awards for the top 10 in each JV race and the Fr/So Girls kicked things off and
had a good showing placing 2 in the top 10 (Maliah and Whitney) and 1 more in
the top 15 (Hope). Jane showed a huge improvement from the Dart Challenge. The
Fr Boys put another 2 in the top 10 with Tyler and Kevin and 3 more to round
out the top 15 (Chase, Jacob, and Carter). There aren't many races where you
get 5 guys in the top 15 and still take 2nd place, but American Fork got us by
7 points having 4 guys in the top 10. We only had 5 boys in the Soph Boys race,
but Daniel took care of business from the beginning. The last half mile was
back and forth between another kid, but Daniel had a strong finish to hold him
off. Michael also had one of our biggest improvements from the Dart Challenge.
The Jr/Sr Girls race is full of varsity runners and Rosie looked great
finishing 3rd. She was patient that first half mile and then moved up very well
the rest of the race. The Jr/Sr boys race is also loaded with varsity runners
and Connor led the charge with a 6th place finish. The varsity races are hard
because often times the race spreads out and you're running by yourself. The
Girls didn't look terribly sharp, but that doesn't mean anything. It was still
a good start. Fortunately, we will see most of those teams again. We'll get
back to work and get ready for the next one. The Boys were led by Jake which
put us in good position at 8th. Jared took over and made his way up to 3rd
place where Trey did a great job battling with AF. Carson held position against
one of AF's best and then Nivo caught Riverton with less than a half-mile to go
to put us in a very solid 2nd place to a top 10 nationally ranked team.
Results for
our TEAM are at the bottom of this email. I put the full results in an excel
file and attached them to this email if you're interested. Click on the correct
tab at the bottom to find your race. Note: the team scores aren't correct
because I didn't remove non-scorers -- it wouldn't change the order much, if at
all.

can be found here: JV Varsity
Athletes of
the week: Rosie Schraedel, Sydney Hedquist, Jake Halverson, Daniel Larsen
We have
Athlete of the Week water bottles.
Morning Runs
We meet at
6:00 am every morning except Tuesday (7:00 am) at the south end of the school.
They are not required.
Races this
week
We have two
races this week which are both on B-days. That means you will be checked out of
8th period for two of the three days this week. If you feel like that is too
much school missed, you are welcome to find your own way to the races.
Wednesday is only 3 miles from the school, so it shouldn't be too hard to get
there.

The goal
this week is to be brave. Don't be afraid of failure. Failure is a great
teacher. Our friend Colleen (steeple_squigs) posted a picture recently that
stated, "What would you do if you were not afraid?" What a great
question! Let's not be afraid of training and hard workouts. Let's not be
scared of a race or anyone in it. Make friends in your classes. Be nice and
include those that need a friend. Go ask your crush out on a date 😱!
Let's show
up this week with a ton of positive energy.
