We had a great week of TEAM racing. The Pre-Region meet went well on Wednesday, and we looked strong at the BYU Invite yesterday. Our times show that we are moving in the right direction - we need to continue to work hard and focus on staying healthy and strong. A big part of our improvement from here out will be our mental toughness.
Pre-Region: We came out victorious in all 4 races at the pre-region meet. The boys varsity shattered the team time record with 50:00 (10:00 average for top 5 guys). Camren Todd, Logan MacKay, and Colton Rimann were all under the previous course record of 10:04. We also set a new team record with 22 guys under 11:00. In the JV boys race, we had the top 26 places and 34 of the top 35. Our JV boys are really showing our strong depth. Josh Christiansen got the JV victory in 10:47.
The varsity girls ran our #2 fastest team time and were led by the individual victory and course record by Courtney Wayment in 11:27. Aubrey Argyle, Sam Hedquist, Ally Geisler, and Grace Neuenschwander rounded out our top 5 finishing 3-4-5-6. Freshman Abi Waddoups had a breakthrough race to finish as the top 9th grader in the meet with her 8th place finish. The JV girls were nearly as dominant as the boys - finishing with the top 13 places and 19 of the top 22. Alicia Halverson got the JV victory in 13:21.

BYU Invite: We had another great meet yesterday at BYU. Our focus was to run smart and controlled over the first half, to move well as a team through the second half, and to work on our kicks at the finish. Overall we did pretty well, but we will continue to work on those things in the next few races. We won the team competition in 5 of the 6 races, and finished 2nd in the girls JV by only 1 point. I was really proud of our young runners - both girls and boys. We are seeing some good improvements from our freshman and sophomores. Our varsity boys went up against 3 very good teams (Desert Hills, Lehi, and Lone Peak); and the varsity girls looked their strongest as a group so far this season. The JV boys had our most decisive win with a perfect 15 - taking 14 of the top 18 places. Overall, our boys earned 34 t-shirts (for top 30 finishes) and our girls earned 24 t-shirts. It was a fun day, and I was proud of your efforts.

Athletes of the Week:
Derek Thornton, Nate Hales, Adam Hedquist, Frasier Williamson
Madeline English, Haylee Downey, Abi Waddoups, Addy Rich
TEAM Night/Parent Night: Our annual Parent night is this Thursday (9/10) at 7:00pm in the Davis auditorium. We will go over a little bit of information, and we will have 2 short guest speakers (done around 8:00pm). We hope that all the athletes and parents can make it. Please be on time. Thanks!
Bob Firman: I have attached the invite list and the Itinerary for the Bob Firman Invitational. It is on September 25-26 in Boise, Idaho. The cost will be $115. I wish that we could take the entire team - I feel that all of you are earning your spots and working hard - but we are only able to take 98 athletes (almost double previous years). If you didn't make the list, keep working hard and going after future opportunities (use it to motivate you). If you are on the list, but you are not going to be able to go, please let me know ASAP and I will invite an alternate. I don't know if there are any rooms left where we are staying, but we are going to be at the Marriott Springhill Suites in downtown Boise (Parkcenter) for those parents who are coming up.
I shared this thought on Facebook - No one race (good or bad) defines someone as a runner (or a person). You define who you are over multiple races and multiple experiences. The ups and downs are kind of one of the best parts of being a runner.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Thanks!
Coach Talley
