DXC Update - Bob Firman Invite

Darts -
Thanks for a great trip up to Boise for the Bob Firman Invitational. I was pleased with the way our TEAM raced, and also very happy about how well behaved you were on the trip. I hope that you had a lot of fun, learned something from your race, and made some great memories. Thanks to those parents who were able to come up and help us out with support and other things, thanks to those parents who dropped off food/snacks at the school on Friday morning, and thanks to the boys for making those really cool shirts :)
I felt like we did a great job preparing and racing well on the road (which is a good sign for some later races). I also felt like many of you ran tough even if you didn't have the best day. Although that is one thing I think many of you can work on - running tough on a bad day. It is important to stay positive and to rise up to the challenges that face you - either on a tough course or a difficult day - you still want to give 100% - never give up!! (Even when the race is not going your way). A Champion finds a way to race through the pain and doubt that comes on a bad day. Race and Train like a Champion no matter what place you finish! I also feel like we can continue to work on being confident and fearless - and maybe on tying our shoes a little better (I think I saw 3 shoes undone on the second lap from our team).
We did perform very well against some of the best competition in the Western U.S. The varsity boys finished 6th in the elite varsity race. Skylar ran a great race to lead the way for us - his time of 15:57 was only the 3rd time we have had someone under 16:00 on the course (Jared Ward and Brad Nye are the other two). The rest of the boys also fought hard - with Josh Ward, Colton Rimann, Logan MacKay, and Stokton Smith rounding out the top 5. We were very close to 3rd place in the race - and I feel like we are right on track to be ready for some great races at region, state, and NXN Southwest. The next 7 boys ran in the large school race where they finished 5th out of nearly 30 teams. We were the top JV team in the race - the 4 teams who beat us were all the top 7 from their schools. We had some outstanding races from Colter Blanchard (17:06), Daniel Tumblin (17:17), and Camren Todd (17:23). Our young group of boys is coming right along - if we had scored the meet without any seniors in any of the races, we would have finished 1st (but not by much). With some hard work over the next 365 days, we could be going back to Bob Firman and fighting for the top spot. The JV boys also looked strong with 6 boys in the top 20. We were led by a strong race from Tom Moncur (6th).
The Varsity Girls continued their undefeated reign, taking on the best Utah schools and a few of the top schools from Idaho, Washington, and California. We had a great 1-2 punch with Taylor Cox and Aubrey Argyle finishing 4-5 in the race and running our 4th and 5th fastest times ever on the course (18:22 and 18:23). Our strength has been our pack - and it was again this weekend with our top 5 girls in the top 20 (and under 19:00). Hannah Albrechtsen was 10th (with a pretty bad sinus infection), Kenzie Weir was 16th, and Ashley Tyndall was 20th. Both Aimee Vance (26th), and Josey Hedquist (47th) would have been in every other teams' top 5. We ended up winning the elite varsity race by almost 100 points, and we ran the course record for team time by almost a full minute (93:08 for our top 5 combined). Our top 7 JV girls did amazing in the Large School Varsity Race against the varsity teams that were not entered in the elite race. Sierra Graham had an awesome first race back from a hamstring injury to finish 3rd, and Ally Geisler ran the 4th fastest 9th grade time of the day to finish 4th. Grace Neuenschwander and Sam Hedquist also finished in the top 20 as our JV girls won the varsity race by 26 points.

Athletes of the Week:
Stokton Smith - for a very gutsy race, despite some health issues as of late. He is on his road back and will make a huge difference for us in the future.
JR Oldham - for his huge 77 second improvement over the BYU 5k last week. And for being so helpful on a trip once again. And for his creativity on the bus (hammock).
Taylor Cox - for coming up big in a big race once again and leading the way for us with a 4th place finish. Holy fast race, Batman!
Morgan Miller - for having our biggest girls improvement with a 63 second improvement over BYU - and for doing it with a bad ankle - way to go Wonder Woman.
